Modern quilts, sustainably created
I make quilts by hand in the mountains of western North Carolina, on the ancestral lands of the Eastern Cherokee and Yuchi peoples, near Asheville: a hub for artists and creatives.
While I use a modern sewing machine, my work is all based on traditional piecing and patchwork quilting techniques. Each quilt is finished/bound by hand; I treasure this final opportunity to spend time with each piece before it heads out into the world.
A major focus of my making is on materials. I use organic GOTS-certified cotton fabric in a “greige” (less processed) form. Most of the colors in my work are from natural dyes, from plants harvested and foraged from nature by me. The batting I use (i.e., the “inside” of the quilt) is natural unbleached cotton; and my thread is organic GOTS-certified cotton. My quilts are completely plant-based, created in a cruelty-free vegan home.
I perform each step in the making process slowly and thoughtfully. If you are looking for something specific, please contact me! I would love the feedback and input.
